NJ middle school teacher accused in sexual assault of minor

A middle school teacher in New Jersey is accused of sexually assaulting a minor who “was known to him,” authorities said.

Harry Wyatt, 53, of Piscataway, was arrested Thursday and charged with one count of second-degree sexual assault, one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, and one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, according to a joint statement from the Piscataway Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The second-degree charges carry prison sentences of five to 10 years, the Bridgewater Courier News reported. Wyatt is being held in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center pending a detention hearing in Superior Court on Tuesday, the newspaper reported.

Wyatt is a teacher at the Leonard V. Moore Middle School, which is part of the Roselle School District in Union County, NJ.com reported. Officials at the school could not be reached for comment on Monday night, the website reported.

No other details about Wyatt’s arrest were released, according to NJ.com.
