WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a public health alert Tuesday for a gluten-free variety of Perdue’s frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast tenders that may be contaminated with extraneous materials.
According to regulators, small pieces of clear plastic and blue dye may be present in the affected product.
Per the health alert, the affected items were shipped to BJ’s Wholesale Club retail locations nationwide.
A consumer complaint prompted the investigation, but the alert is limited specifically to 42-ounce plastic bags labeled “PERDUE CHICKEN BREAST TENDERS GLUTEN FREE” with a “best by” date of July 12, 2024, and a lot number of 2193.
A recall was not requested because the product is no longer available for purchase, the inspection service stated.
The company has fielded zero reports to date of adverse reactions due to consumption of the product.
Consumers who purchased these products are advised not to consume them. The products should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase, the alert stated.
