BATON ROUGE, La. — Doctors in Louisiana successfully delivered a premature baby girl after her mother died from coronavirus complications, WBRZ and WAFB are reporting.

According to a GoFundMe campaign, Allie Guidry, 29, of Baton Rouge, was 25 weeks pregnant when she died early Thursday, weeks after she contracted COVID-19. But Woman's Hospital reportedly performed an emergency C-section to save her baby, Madaline.

"We would like people to know to take this virus seriously," her mother, Denise, told the news station alongside Guidry's partner, identified in the GoFundMe description as Michael Conish.

The infant, who weighed just 2 pounds at birth, remains in stable condition in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit, WBRZ reported.

Now, Guidry's family is urging the public to exercise caution during the pandemic.

As of Friday morning, the campaign had raised more than $16,000 to help pay for Madaline’s treatment and Guidry’s funeral. Learn more here. more here or here.
