MANHATTAN, N.Y. — Elliot Page and Emma Portner announced Tuesday that they are divorcing after three years of marriage.
“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer,” the pair said in a joint statement obtained by People magazine. “We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends.”
According to TMZ, which first reported the high-profile split, the “Umbrella Academy” star filed the divorce paperwork in a Manhattan court.
Page, 33, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in the 2007′s “Juno,” came out as a transgender man two months ago.
Portner, a dance teacher and choreographer, publicly championed Page’s Dec. 1 identity announcement, calling her spouse’s existence a “gift in and of itself,” the Los Angeles Times reported.
