The child found a gun “carelessly laying” on a chair, according to Thomasville police Chief Mitchell Stuckey, WKRG-TV reported. The boy pointed the weapon at his 7-year-old brother shortly before 3 p.m. EDT on Friday, WALA-TV reported.

Police said the gun was accidentally discharged, and the bullet went past the 7-year-old and through the windshield of the postal carrier’s truck, according to WALA.

The bullet lodged in the worker’s sun visor, nearly striking the woman in her head, WKRG reported.

Stuckey said the department is working with the postal inspector and expects state and federal charges to be filed relating to the firearm, according to WALA.
