5 killed, including toddler, in head-on crash in Texas

HOUSTON — Five people, including a 2 1/2-year-old child, were killed in a head-on collision in Texas over the weekend, authorities said.

According to KTRK and KRIV, the crash occurred shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 59 in Wharton County. Wharton police said a black Cadillac SUV crossed a median and entered oncoming traffic, striking a Nissan Altima, the news outlets reported.

Authorities have not released the victims’ names, according to the news outlets.

Four adults, including the Cadillac’s driver and three people in the Altima, died at the scene, according to KRIV. Two children in the Altima – the 2 1/2-year-old and a 6-month-old baby – were taken to hospitals, where the toddler died, the TV station reported. No further information about the infant’s condition was immediately available.
