2-year-old boy critically wounded in shooting at Minnesota apartment complex

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — A 2-year-old boy was critically hurt when gunfire erupted in a Minnesota apartment, authorities said.

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the incident occurred shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday at the Huntington Place apartment complex in Brooklyn Park. Police responded to a report of a shooting and arrived to find a toddler who had suffered a gunshot wound, authorities said. Emergency crews rushed the boy to a nearby hospital, where he is in critical condition, the newspaper reported.

Multiple adults were in the home when the shooting occurred, WCCO-TV reported. Although the 911 caller said the child had shot himself, witnesses told police conflicting stories, according to the news station and the Star Tribune.

In a Facebook post Thursday, Brooklyn Park police said they are looking for a "young black male, by the street name of 'BD,'" who fled the apartment following the incident.
