Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon and owner of The Washington Post, is now the richest person in the world once again after a post-earnings surge in Amazon.com Inc. shares pushed him to the top Friday.
Bloomberg said that he added $10.4 billion to his net worth when shares rose 13 percent. This brought his net worth up to $91.6 billion according to Forbes.
Microsoft founder Bill Gates was previously the world's richest person with an estimated net worth of 87.9 billion.
On Friday, Amazon had its biggest move in two and a half years, after it got a big boost from its latest “Prime Day” promotion and the purchase of the Whole Foods grocery store chain.
For only one day in July, Bezos briefly passed Gates until the shares ended lower that day, returning him to the number two wealthiest person.
