WATERTOWN, Mass. — A traffic advisory for anyone who lives in or commutes through Watertown; Main Street is closed until further notice.
Watertown Police said Monday night that Main Street is closed between Spring Street and Waverly Avenue due to what crews believe may be a ruptured oil line.
Police say there are Eversource wires underground that are encased with mineral oil and at least one of those pipes broke. They say there was so much oil that leaked out, it made Main Street dangerously slippery.
In the meantime, hazmat crews from Clean Harbors are leading the cleanup effort.
Eversource is still searching for the source of the leak.
Drivers should avoid the area, but keep in mind the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge project is impacting the Pike. Detours from that project were supposed to send drivers to alternate routes, like Main Street (Route 20).

Police have said there is no danger to residents.
