(MyFoxBoston.com) -- Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has restructured his contract, loosening up cap space for his team to re-sign upcoming free agents, according to a new report by ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Brady's altered contract includes a change in guarantees. Instead of a $24 million "skill" guarantee, his restructured contract includes a $24 million "injury" guarantee. Now, if Brady were to be injured, he would get the full guaranteed amount. But with the change, he no longer will receive the $24 million if he were to be cut by the team. Brady would also be free to sign with another team should he choose.
Brady originally signed $57 million contract that ends in 2017. In 2014, he counted $14.8 million against the team's cap.
This offseason the Patriots will have to address free agents Darrelle Revis, Devin McCourty and Nate Solder. Brady's restructured contract will free up cash for the team to address their contract situations.
