BOSTON — There isn’t a lot of snow on the ground Thursday morning, but dozens of local schools, including Boston, canceled classes – adding another day to the June school calendar.

Many families say they’re disappointed that the school year just extended another day into June when this fourth nor’easter never really amounted to much.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said the decision was made to close schools as a precaution after forecasts showed the city would see several inches of snow.

But the track of the storm changed Wednesday evening and remained to our south.

The district already has five snow days this year that pushed the last day of school from June 20 to June 27.

And now with students off Thursday, too, school may not end until June 28.

That’s the case for several schools across the state.

Some schools scheduled make-up days on Saturdays or during April vacation to avoid adding more days into the end of June.

Parents Boston 25 News spoke with said on days like Thursday when school is canceled but there’s not a lot of snow, it’s pretty frustrating.

“I don’t know about anyone else, but my kids aren’t getting their education,” parent Jennifer Walsh said. “I’m not going to work. I don’t get paid, that’s reality. Four kids. We are going out to dinner.”

Andover, for example, has had 10 snow days so far this year, and the district has already scheduled make-up days on two Saturdays and Good Friday, as well as an extra day in June.
