Thousands of dollars raised after heavy fire damages Melrose home

A GoFundMe page was set up to support a family whose home was damaged in a fire in Melrose.

The Melrose Fire Department responded to a reported house fire on First Street around 7 a.m. Sunday morning, and found a heavy fire in the rear of the building.

The department said they were able to get it under control relatively quickly, and said there were no reports of any injuries.

The GoFundMe, set up by The First Street Crew and friends, set a goal of $5,000, which was shattered almost instantly.
