QUINCY, Mass. — Jessica Huynh was home alone in the middle of the day when she heard the door open and thought it was her brother coming back - only to discover it was a burglar.
“I was in my room eating and I heard someone come in and I thought it was my brother,” Jessica said.
After she shrugged it off, she heard someone rifling through the drawers in the kitchen. The burglar then tried to open her locked bedroom door.
"Then he tried to open my door because I heard my doorknob jiggle. But it was locked so he kicked the door open and I got startled," Huynh said.
The would-be-thief, however, turned out to be just as startled to see Jessica and took off toward the kitchen. Jessica was afraid he was going for a knife.
“So I closed the door and locked it again. Then I opened the window and jumped out," Huynh told Boston 25 News reporter John Monahan.
Jessica then jumped out of the window in her room and called the police. The burglar had broken in through the bulkhead, made his way into the basement and then went upstairs. He didn't think anyone was home until he saw Jessica face-to-face.
“In the middle of the day it’s horrifying… this is Montclair. I’ve lived here my whole life. To think this happened is really shocking,” said Marianne Keenan, a neighbor.
Despite the burglar leaving empty-handed, Jessica hopes that this can lead to his arrest. She says she's still on edge after her run-in with that burglar.
“I’m really stressed and anxious. I don’t want to be home alone anymore,” Jessica said.
