Teen driver killed, brother hospitalzed after car crash

BARRE, Mass. — A teenager was killed in a car crash in the town of Barre Wednesday morning.

Police say 17-year-old Brittany Murch and her 15-year-old brother, Griffin, of Hubbardston were driving on Route 62 just after 9 a.m. when their car drove off the road and hit a tree.

Brittany died at the scene and Griffin was rushed to UMass Memorial Medical Center.

Police are investigating if the icy conditions are to blame, and said speed could also have been a factor.

The Murch siblings are both students at Quabbin Regional High School, where officials said they will have grief counselors on hand Thursday.

"Everybody at school is talking about it," said sophomore Tyler Rogers, who has classes with Griffin. "When he wakes up, he's going to be pretty upset."

A second crash also occurred in the same area Wednesday morning., the driver of that car only suffered minor injuries.
