Teen allegedly threatens to 'pull a Columbine' on a local school

BOLTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A 15-year-old student is being charged after allegedly threatening a local school.

On Wednesday morning, Bolton police got a tip from a Worcester resident who said that while using an app called Whisper, he found a post that threatened a local school.

That resident, who doesn't want to be identified, said he was stunned when he saw it and a bit nervous about calling police.

"I was apprehensive because if I did call and this person wasn't being serious, I can really mess up their lives," he said.

The post was anonymous, but did say it originated in Bolton. In the threat, the writer said they were "gonna pull a columbine … before I graduate…" referring to a Bolton high school.

Police immediately began investigating the threat and alerted school officials at the Nashoba Regional High School, which enrolls students from Bolton, Lancaster and Stow.

Officials from the Whisper app gave information to police that allowed them to identify the physical GPS location in Bolton where the author wrote the post and from there police were able to find the address for the person that was linked to the post. Police went to that address and spoke to the parents of two Nashoba Regional High School students and the teens themselves. Officers found that a 15-year-old wrote and posted the threat.

Bolton Police say there was a handgun in the home, registered to a parent. The gun was voluntarily handed over to police.

The student is being charged with threatening the use of a deadly weapon and threatening to commit a crime. She is also facing disciplinary action at her school.
