Suspect in carjackings, wild police chase arraigned in hospital

BURLINGTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The man who allegedly stole numerous cars and led police on a multi-town chase pled not guilty to a number of charges during an arraignment in the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Donald Hall, 28, of Everett, was arrested in Bedford Monday after the chase ended in a crash. Hall was taken to Lahey Clinic with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The Ford Flex that crashed had several bullet holes in it, and Hall may have suffered a gunshot injury, though officials did not say what exactly his injuries were.

He pled guilty to numerous charges, including armed assault to rob a person over 60 years old, armed carjacking, carrying a firearm without a license, as well as other gun-related and dangerous driving related charges. Court officers ordered that he be held without bail.

"You know, I was really lucky, so thank God," the victim said.

Police allege that Hall's spree of carjackings began early Monday morning in Haverhill and left one person injured.

Just before 2:30 a.m. Monday, Haverhill police received a call from a man and woman who said they were approached by a white man, roughly 6 feet tall, who threatened the two with a gun and demanded they get out of the car. The suspect then fled in their car.

Police say Hall abandoned that stolen car in Newton at around 5:15 a.m., and it was found at the intersection of Crafts Street and Ashmont Road.

Next, police say, Hall knocked on a stranger's door on Lincoln Road in Newton Monday afternoon and claimed to have damaged the woman's car. When she came out to inspect the car, the suspect allegedly showed her a gun, stole her keys and took off in her Acura.

The Acura was later found in Billerica after a report of another stolen car, according to Newton police.

A white Toyota Tundra was reported stolen from Nashua Road in Carlisle at around 1:30 p.m., according to Billerica police.

The police pursuit of the stolen vehicle continued, ending at around 2 p.m. on Springs Road in Bedford.

The final car the suspect was believed to be driving and crashed in Bedford was a Ford Flex, which police believe Hall stole from a pharmacy parking lot in Concord after crashing the Tundra.

Next, Hall reportedly drove toward Hanscom Air Force Base, making a U-turn there. Police deployed spike strips, which punctured the Flex's tires. The strips, along with police maneuvers, caused Hall to stop and crash.

Hall will appear before a judge again on Friday at a dangerousness hearing.
