LOWELL, Mass. — Police arrested a man who allegedly shot a man and assaulted a woman during an early-morning drug deal in Lowell Wednesday.

23-year-old John Peralta was arrested on a warrant for multiple charges including armed assault with intent to murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.

On Wednesday, the unidentified woman allegedly became involved in some sort of altercation with Peralta and an unidentified woman on Read Street. They began to attack her, and police said the male victim ran to assist his friend.

That’s when, police said, Peralta allegedly pulled out a shotgun and fired at the male victim, hitting him.

Both victims were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police, a search warrant conducted at 33 Read Street uncovered a .22 caliber handgun, 350 rounds of handgun and shotgun ammunition, a high capacity feeding device, prescriptions in Peralta’s name and evidence of a drug distribution operation.
