Surrendered cats, dog available for adoption after being removed from ‘unlivable’ home

JAMAICA PLAIN, Mass. — The MSPCA-Angell’s Boston Adoption Center is now the temporary home for 21 cats and one dog.

The animals were removed from a home in Brighton on July 31st by Boston Animal Control after they were voluntarily surrendered by their owner.

The property was described as “unlivable,” and has since been taken over by the Boston Housing Authority.

“This is one of those cases where the animals began to multiply and their owner got overwhelmed and could no longer care for them,” said Anna Rafferty-Arnold, associate director of the MSPCA’s Boston Adoption Center.

All of the animals are now available for adoption.

The cats range in age from 3-months to two years. Many are shy, but workers with MSPCA-Angell say they are starting to come around.

Despite minor untreated medical issues, the cats are generally healthy.

“Many of them have waxy, swollen ears so we’re treating them for that and all of them received an antibiotic shot upon intake to help clear up existing infections and ward off new ones,” said Rafferty-Arnold.

Anyone interested in adopting the animals should contact adoption@mspca.org.
