State Dept. issues worldwide travel alert for U.S. citizens due to increased terrorist threats

(MyFoxBoston.com) -- The State Department issued a worldwide travel alert for U.S. citizens Monday due to increased terrorist threats.

The department also believes there is a continuing threat from "unaffiliated persons" that may plan attacks inspired by other terrorist organizations.

U.S. citizens should take extreme caution when traveling, the department says, and always be aware of your surroundings. This alert says Americans could be at risk anywhere throughout the world.

Homeland Security Expert Anthony Amore said, "There wouldn't be an alert if there wasn't some intelligence telling the government that Americans have to be on the lookout."

At Logan Airport, FOX25 caught up with a group of travelers who just returned from Europe. Their trip began the day of the Paris attacks.

Judy O'Brien said, "I think it's very concerning, we've all been aware of it all week long, thinking about it. But trying not to let it interfere with what we were doing."
