SOMERSET, Mass. — Officials with the town of Somerset announced the death of their beloved fire chief on Thursday.
Just days after the world rung in the new year, it was a solemn announcement that Somerset Fire Chief Scott Jepson died suddenly.
Emergency crews responded to Jepson’s home at around 1:30 p.m. and found him suffering from an injury.
Jepson, who was 54-years-old, was rushed to Charlton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Somerset Police, along with State Police, are currently investigating the unattended death, but say they do not suspect any foul play.
Jepson is a 27-year veteran of the Somerset Fire Department and is survived by his wife and son. He began his career in 1985 and served in two other departments before becoming fire chief in 2008.
The death remains under investigation.
