Snow removal gets serious in Braintree

BRAINTREE (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Braintree homeowner Bobby Russo brought our camera inside his home to see where water is seeping through the ceiling in his garage.

Right above where his children sleep.

"It's like frozen cake that's been in the freezer for a year," Russo said.  "Now it's starting to come by the wall right here. You can see the plaster bubbling right now."

Russo tells FOX25 his kids have been sleeping in other rooms because of the ceiling water.

"It's so overwhelming right now, overwhelming," he said

Snow is overwhelming the roofs atop homes, businesses, apartments.

FOX25 rode along with Braintree building inspectors as they monitored the snow removal efforts across the town.  With snow, rain and ice in the forecast, "it is very much a race against time," says Russ Forsberg, a building inspector.

Forsberg points out how the apartment complex is getting creative with its snow removal.

"You can see here they're using a boom to facilitate the removal of snow," he said.

Snow removal operations have become the new normal, according to Forsberg.

"This is unprecedented."

Forsberg brought FOX25 to the roof of the Sports Authority at the Marketplace at Braintree. We saw dozens of workers scrambling to haul off snow with wheel barrels and cranes, which they say are in short supply.

"We have very few days to accomplish what has to get done."
