Shelter in place lifted at North Brookfield schools

NORTH BROOKFIELD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The shelter in place was lifted at North Brookfield High School and Elementary School more than three hours after it was ordered Monday morning.

A bullet was found in a bathroom at the high school on Monday morning. Students were told not to move and kept inside their classrooms while officials swept the high school.

“The school was put in the ‘shelter in place’, which is differs from a lockdown in that students are still being taught,” West Brookfield Police Capt. Thomas O’Donnell said.

Police soon determined that that students were not in danger and that there was no threat to their safety.

“This is our protocol- this is how we handle it. So- we're just running through as we've trained,” O’Donnell said.

Because the high school and elementary school are on the same plot of land, the elementary students were also told to shelter in place.
