(MyFoxBoston.com) -- In the wake of recent movie theater shootings near Nashville, TN and in Louisiana, we wanted to find out if you'll notice any security changes the next time you go to the movies.
Our Crystal Haynes spoke to moviegoers about security, and most aren't nervous about heading to the cinema despite the three movie theater shootings since 2012. Security Expert Todd McGhee says they're so-called soft targets for mass shootings.
"We've seen that in mass transit, we've seen that in theme parks, so that same mindset of large crowds; large places of large gatherings of people has been an attractive target for people that have nefarious acts," he said.
McGhee met with Haynes at Foxboro's Patriot Place, where he says the large movie theater there could benefit from a police detail and staff that's trained to deal with high profile people on the property. But theaters big and small have to start thinking differently about security in the wake of recent mass shootings, starting with staff.
"If there's a specific movie that's being released that may bring in a certain type of crowd, well that's a normal baseline. If they begin to understand what the normal baseline is in the environment they then can pick out aberrant behavior," McGhee said.
Mom and movie-goer Patty Lensi said she's careful but not fearful when going to her theater.
"I just keep aware of my surroundings make sure I know where all the exits are," she said.
