WEYMOUTH, Mass. — An anonymous donor paid off $10,000 dollars worth of layaway balances at a Walmart store in Weymouth.
Pam Macdonald was one of the lucky people who benefited from this Secret Santa's generosity.
Macdonald had done all her Christmas shopping early this year and had put all the toys she purchased for her grandkids on layaway. However, she never even got a chance to make the first payment when she got the call telling her everything had been paid off.
Macdonald had put $150 dollars worth of gifts on layaway, all for her grandchildren.
“I got a call on a Sunday. (The) gentleman at Walmart called and said my layaway had been paid for and I could come pick it up anytime," said Macdonald.
In disbelief, she called Walmart to check, who then confirmed that her layaway had, in fact, been paid off.
“I called back to make sure it wasn’t a fake and he said 'oh no you’re the third person that’s called and a secret Santa has paid your layaway,'" said Macdonald.
Walmart confirmed, in a statement, that the anonymous donor had paid off dozens of layaway balances at their Weymouth store:
"When customers quietly pay off others’ layaway items, we’re reminded how good people can be. The joy that comes from these transactions extends well beyond dollars and cents. We’re honored to be a small part of these random acts of kindness.”
Macdonald is now doing everything she can to pay it forward.
"Buying coffee for people - I mean, I'm nice anyway - just being a good person," Macdonald said.
