NORTON, Mass. — The search continues Friday morning for a shooting suspect that sparked a lockdown in Norton.

Dozens of police officers and SWAT surrounded a condo complex in Norton for hours Thursday, and neighbors were ordered to stay inside their homes.

Police in tactical gear arrived at the Norton Glen Apartments Thursday morning and set up a lift outside a second story home, using a barricade to protect themselves as they looked inside.

Armored vehicle tracks were seen near the driveway, and detectives thought they had the man cornered.

Norton police said they had credible tips that the suspect was inside the apartment, but when they went inside all they found was his cellphone.

It’s unclear if the man was actually inside or if he managed to slip away.

Neighbors watched the whole thing from inside their homes.

“All I saw was all the SWAT teams (Thursday) morning,” Fred Sayers said. “I looked out the window. I was having my coffee. I saw the SWAT teams out back with their guns.”

Police haven’t released the suspect’s name, but said he’s armed and dangerous.

They said he’s wanted in connection to a shooting in Boston earlier this month.

Neighbors told Boston 25 News the woman who lived inside the apartment is the suspect’s ex-girlfriend.

The woman declined to comment.
