Airfare is rising, hotel rooms are filling up, but there’s another way to travel and RV enthusiasts believe it is the best way.
“It rides like a Lincoln Towncar. It just floats,” said Sheri Fuller of Fuller Motor Home Rentals, Inc.
"You've got your food; you've got your lodging. You've got your transportation,” she said.
Fuller says that renting luxury RVs eliminate the headaches of flights and hotels for a fun vacation.
For anyone heading to Houston, she said it’s the ride they need to be in and it’s less expensive.
As for where to park, she said first-time renters are often surprised by the number of free places across the country.
"You can park at Lowe's, you can park at Walmart, at Sam's Club, at some Cracker Barrels,” said Fuller.
These motorhomes can range in price from $2,700 to $9,100 for the week to rent. They can carry four to 10 people. Here’s how the cost comparison breaks down:
Gas - $1,000
Renting the RV for 7 days - $2,700 to $9,100
Hotel - $600 per night
Airfare per person - $500 to $1,200 depending on airline
RV enthusiasts say compared to the cost of airfare, hotel, and dining out, it’s a much more economic option than a standard vacation package.
Boston to Houston is a 1,800-mile trip, approximately 28 hours through 12 states, including Texas. For those in an RV, those three 10-hour days can be relaxing, with a living room, a dining room and a kitchen all at your fingertips. There’s also a roomy bedroom and a fridge for all the food.
Over the years, Fuller said renters have used these motor homes to enjoy both the Super Bowl and the journey home, making it a road trip on the way back.
