WORCESTER, Mass. — Delivery and taxi drivers said they are fearing for their lives while on the job in Worcester.

A string of robberies over the last few weeks have many questioning their safety as they head to work.

Some drivers are so scared they were forced to quit, others told FOX25 they can’t stop because it’s the only way to support their families.

Ziab Saliba, a manager at Road Runner Pizza, told FOX25 that one of his delivery drivers was robbed at gun point by three men.

“The guys robbed him, asked for his money, take his jacket, take the food. They stripped him basically of everything. It was a very cold night,” Saliba said.

Worcester police said this was one of more than half a dozen similar robberies since January. FOX25 has learned these robberies have been taking place for even longer. There are more than a dozen victims total.

“It's very scary,” Jessica Rugg, a cab driver said. “My doors are always locked.”

Rugg, a mother of three, is working 10 hours a day as a cab driver to support her family. She's aware of the recent rash of robberies targeting drivers.

“If I don't like the looks of them, they don't get in,” she said.

Police said they are continuing to investigate the robberies, which have occurred all across the city.
