BOSTON — General Electric's presence is being felt all over Boston, especially in the Waterfront District, where it's new headquarters is going.

Now, General Electric is branching out and making its mark on the Celtics. In a news conference Wednesday, GE announced that the company logo is set to appear opposite the Nike swoosh starting next year. Last year, the NBA opened the door to jersey sponsorships with a 2.5 inches by 2.5 inches size restriction as a way for teams to make more money.

Sponsored logos is a common practice on soccer jerseys worldwide. The Celtics would be the third team to announce a deal, joining the Philadelphia 76ers and Sacramento Kings.

The Celtics are a charter member of the NBA and its most decorated franchise, with 17 championships.

General Electric is in the process of moving its corporate headquarters from Connecticut to an old candy factory on the Boston waterfront. The company has announced plans to employ 800 people in the Hub as it relocates.
