BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- On November 17, 1928, the Boston Madison Square Garden officially opened its doors to the public. Eventually, it would come to be known simply as the Boston Garden.
It was designed by Tex Rickard specifically for boxing, but hockey and basketball soon came onto the scene. The first NHL season game was held on November 20, 1928 between the Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens. Stanley Cup Finals, NBA Finals, NBA All-Star Games and the NCAA Frozen Four were all hosted in the arena over the years.
The Boston Garden hosted a number of notable musicians, such as: The Beatles (1964), Diana Ross and the Supremes (1968), The Jackson 5 (1970), James Brown (1968), Elvis Presley (1971), Led Zeppelin (1975) and Pink Floyd (1977).
Though the original Boston Garden was demolished in 1997, the Garden Club survived the transition to the FleetCenter, now known as TD Garden.
