Red Sox place Dustin Pedroia on 10-day disabled list

BOSTON — Prior to their Saturday night game against the Houston Astros, the Boston Red Sox have placed second baseman Dustin Pedroia on the 10-day disabled list.

The roster move comes due to an inflammation on Pedroia's left knee, retroactive to May 30.

To fill the roster spots of Pedroia and Mookie Betts, first baseman Sam Travis and pitcher Bobby Poyner were recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket.

The announcement was made on Saturday morning by the President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski.

Pedroia, 34, began the season on the disabled list while recovering from a left knee surgery from October 2017. he was reinstated on May 25 and appeared in three games with the Red Sox, going 1-for-11 with two walks and a run scored.

A four-time All-Star, he was named the American League’s Rookie of the Year in 2007 and Most Valuable Player in 2008. Pedroia has won four Rawlings Gold Glove Awards (2008, ’11, ’13-14), the most ever for a Red Sox infielder.
