Recalled dishwasher eyed as possible cause of Webster house fire

WEBSTER, Mass. — A recalled dishwasher is being eyed as a possible cause of a house fire in Webster, Boston 25 News has learned.

The fire at 24 Poland Street started just after 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The owner of the home and his dog were outside when firefighters arrived.

Webster Fire said the fire started in the dishwasher while it was running. It’s unknown at this time what exactly caused the dishwasher to catch fire.

Firefighters encountered heavy fire in the kitchen. The flames spread to the second floor and attic before being put out.

Firefighters from Dudley, Douglas, Oxford and Southbridge helped battle the blaze.

Webster Fire Chief Brian Hickey told Boston 25 News the dishwasher was destroyed, so they don’t know what make or model it was. The homeowner didn’t know either, so he’s working with his insurance company to see if the dishwasher was recalled.
