Quincy woman hospitalized after being attacked by dog while jogging

QUINCY, Mass. — Neighbors say a Quincy woman was out for a run when she was attacked by a dog that wasn't on a leash.

On Labor Day, a woman was attacked by a 2-year-old cane corso. The victim jumped up on a railing as she was screaming for help. It happened at the corner of Elmwood Avenue and Norfolk Street in Quincy.

A man who was with the dog told police he was dog sitting for a family member who was out of state.

A neighbor who was out cutting grass happened to see the attack. He did not want to be identified.

"I had seen a large black dog chasing a woman, she was screaming," he said. "At that point, she didn't know the dog. I grabbed my phone and called 911."

The victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. She has been treated and released.

There will be a hearing about the incident. The city will decide what to do with the dog.

No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
