Prostitution ring busted in Revere, Wellesley

(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Two massage parlor owners are accused of being part of a human trafficking and prostitution ring.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials say the massage parlors were Sun Studio, also known as Sun Spa, in Wellesley, and Bodywork in Revere.

Attorney General Martha Coakley says that her office and investigators believe the owners ran the massage parlors jointly as fronts for their prostitution ring.

The investigation revealed that the owners had also allegedly advertised their businesses on several websites.

Police arrested owners Zhen Lai, 37, of Quincy, and Joseph Girouard, 55, of Revere, Thursday. Another woman, Wenjie Dong, 49, was also arrested in connection with the case.

Girouard and Dong pleaded guilty Friday morning in Chelsea District Court on one count each of trafficking in persons for sexual servitude and keeping a house of ill fame. Girouard's bail was set at $5,000. Dong's bail was set at $1,000 and she had to surrender her passport. Both must stay away from both massage parlors and have no contact with each other.

Lai was also arraigned on Friday in Dedham District Court. She pleaded not guilty to one count of trafficking in persons for sexual servitude and conspiracy to traffic in persons for sexual servitude. Her bail was set at $2,000 under the conditions that she stays away from both parlors, have no contact with employees of the parlors, and surrender her passport.
