MIDDLETON, Mass. — A Level 3 sex offender was caught on camera trying to escape from the Middleton House of Corrections.

The video, obtained exclusively by FOX25, shows 54-year-old Peter Bardzik use a coat and blankets to try and protect himself from the razor wire that tops all of the 25-foot fences around the prison.

Essex County Sheriff Frank Cousin says Bardzik waited until after an evening head-count to make his move, but the razor wire was a bigger problem than expected.

“His legs were all cut, there was blood all dripping up there.  There was blood on the ground.  It was a bloody mess,” Cousin said.

The video shows a sheet drop over the top of the fence then Bardzik comes over. This was the first of two fences though, and he appears to give up.

He was spotted by a corrections officer and brought back into the prison.

Bardzik is a career criminal from Lynn.

In November he was arraigned for two separate home invasions, including one in Andover where he taped a 16-year-old to a chair and stole three hundred dollars from her home.

After treatment for his injuries from the escape attempted, Bardzikk was transferred to the prison in Walpole.
