RUTLAND, MA (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Police say that a driver texting behind the wheel almost struck two uniformed officers.
Two Rutland officers were crossing Main Street just before 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday when they say a white Ford Explorer came inches from running them over. The officers had been just feet from the Rutland Police Department headquarters.
Surveillance video shows the two officers jumping away from the vehicle.
Police say that the vehicle briefly slowed down when the officers commanded the driver to pull over, but the car then continued southbound and onto Maple Avenue.
The officers say they rushed to their cruisers and pursued the vehicle, which ultimately stopped.
Police say the driver admitted to texting around the time she almost hit the officers. She was cited for failing to yield to passengers in a crosswalk, which carries a $200 fine.
