CHELMSFORD, Mass. — An investigation has been launched after a police officer shot a person in Chelmsford, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office.
Shortly before 8 a.m., police were called for a domestic situation at a house on Clover Hill Drive.
The first officer on the scene was taken into the house where he found a man wrestling with a woman "who was pleading for help," Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan said.
Two more officers arrived to help the first and were still unable to stop the man. Ryan said officers tried to use a Taser on the man, who used 'a variety of objects' to threaten the officers and the woman.
A glass and hammers were among the items the man used to threaten the officers, Ryan said.
One of the officers shot the man in the leg twice and another shot grazed his head.
According to Ryan, the man is expected to survive the injuries.
The man was "extremely aggressive and extremely violent," Police Chief James Spinney added.
The man will be charged in relation to the incident once he recovers.
