Police see fatal Mass. crash linked to RI hit-and-run

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) - One person has died and two others were injured in a crash involving two vehicles in Attleboro.

When police responded late Saturday night, a passerby had put out a vehicle fire by using fire extinguishers from a nearby gas station. The two cars involved were a white 1996 Mitsubishi car and a gray 2012 Toyota Highlander.

According to police, a preliminary investigation shows that the Highlander was stopped at a red light at Mendon Road and was struck from behind by the Mitsubishi.

Their names have not been released.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 37-year-old man, was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The car's passenger, a 40-year-old man, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated for serious injuries. The driver of the Toyota Highlander, a 39-year-old woman, was taken to Pawtucket Memorial Hospital. Police said she was not seriously injured.

Witnesses told police that the Mitsubishi had been involved in a hit and run accident in Pawtucket moments before the crash in Attleboro.

The crash remains under investigation.
