TAUNTON, Mass. — Taunton police are investigating a hit and run that left one man in the hospital.

Police arrived at the scene around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and found 33-year-old Peter Schifone of Stoughton lying in the road with a serious leg injury. Schifone was treated at Rhode Island Hospital.

Mike Sayce, a Taunton resident, told FOX25's Catherine Parrotta that Schifone was "hit by a car at the end of State Street. By the time he fell off the car, it was towards Bay Road."

Sayce told FOX25, "pretty much the whole street was a crime scene." He described how evidence, including narcotics, could be seen all over the road.

Police did not identify the driver, but said it was a man who later voluntarily turned himself in. Police said Schifone and driver knew each other and may have had a disagreement. Police said there was an event that happened prior to the crash and said they were still trying to figure out how Schifone got run over.

No further information was immediately available. Police said they're not ready to charge anyone because they're still trying to figure out who is at fault.
