Police are searching for the driver of a truck that crashed into a gas pump at a Danvers gas station, sparking a fire, before driving away.

According to Danvers police, witnesses told them they saw Toyota pickup truck crash into a pump at the Gulf gas station at 425 Newbury Street, just off Route 1, early Friday morning, causing the pump to erupt in flames, and then left.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Danvers Police Department at 978-774-1213.

The gas station's fire suppression system activated and quickly extinguished the fire, Danvers police said in a news release, and extensive damage forced the closure of the business.

Police are still searching for the driver, but Danvers police stated in a news release investigators had located the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado in Topsfield.
