WINCHESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Winchester police are investigating another break-in Friday that may be connected to the housebreaks in Woburn and Winchester over the last two months.
Winchester police responded to a home on Woodside Road Wednesday for a breaking and entering. The woman, a grandmother visiting from out of town, told police that she fell asleep on the couch and woke up to see someone standing next to her. He must have entered the house through the unlocked bulkhead. The woman told the suspect to leave, and he eventually did.
Still, neighbors are concerned that he may strike again.
"What a scary feeling to have sensed somebody's there and wake up and he's standing over you," one neighbor said.
After talking to others who encountered the suspect last month and in September, police believe that it is the same person. He is described as a dark-skinned Hispanic or light-skinned African American man who is about 6 feet tall and in his early 20s. He has black marks or acne scars on his face and was seen wearing a dirty, light-gray hooded sweatshirt and dark pants, officials say.
On Wednesday, he reportedly spoke with a Caribbean accent. However, his behavior is always the same, police say. He breaks into homes through windows in the early morning, even if people are home. He has not caused injury to anyone, but police believe he may in the future and should be considered dangerous.
Police urge area residents to lock all of their doors, and they are complying.
"If you take precautions and lock everything up, you minimize the chance of him doing anything," resident Guerry Eaton said. "Now we lock two doors instead of one."
Winchester police searched wooded areas for the suspect Friday, with the help of the state police helicopter.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Woburn Police at 781-933-1212 or Winchester Police at 781-729-1212.
