NASHUA, N.H. — A Nashua high school student brought a loaded gun to school on Thursday, Nashua police said in a statement.

The 17-year-old student at Nashua High School South appeared to be suffering from a seizure shortly after 9:30 Thursday morning.

As a school resource officer called for an ambulance, administrators searched the student's backpack to determine if he had ingested something, they told police. Inside, they found a loaded handgun, which Nashua police seized.

The student was rushed to a hospital. Police did not release his condition.

Detectives from the Special Investigations Division are leading the investigation. It is unclear what charges, if any, the student will face.

The school principal contacted parents in an automated call Thursday afternoon, informing them of the incident and promising safety is administrators' top priority.

Guidance counselors are available to discuss the incident with concerned students.
