NEWBURYPORT, Mass. — Police are looking for the man who allegedly broke into a home, while a mother and her two children were inside.
Wednesday afternoon, police said a man drove up to the house on Turkey Hill Road in Newburyport and smashed the glass siding sliding door in the back. A Newburyport mother called 911 while hiding in her bedroom with her 3-year-old.
"911 Operator: This line is recorded. what's your emergency?
Victim: I'm sorry- someone broke into my house. Can you please come here? I'm upstairs with my children!"
Meanwhile, the 1-year-old was still sleeping across the hall.
"911 Operator: Did you hear glass break?
Victim: I heard a big crash and then I opened my bedroom door and I heard footsteps and I said- hello and I heard footsteps run."
The man got scared off, said police, and he got into his car and sped off, nearly hitting THE CRUISER OF an off-duty officer. The officer was able to take down the car’s information. Police are now looking for a rental car gray 2015 Nissan Altima with a MA registration plate 377ZB4.
Police have issued an arrest warrant for Keith Babcock of Seabrook, New Hampshire.
In just the past few months, several other homes in this same area have also been broken into. Right now, police aren't sure if this latest break-in is related, but they're not ruling it out.
People told FOX25's Stephanie Coueignoux that they always keep a close eye out for any suspicious activity but because of the string of recent break-ins. Police are going to hold a community wide meeting next Tuesday.
