Police investigate shotgun round found at Webster Middle School

WEBSTER, Mass. — A 12 gauge shotgun round was found in a classroom at Webster Middle School Thursday, according to police.

Police were called to the school around 11 a.m. and helped administrators check students and classrooms.

Administrators placed the school in "hold in place" status, which means teaching continues, but movement is restricted.

"On a side note, Webster Teachers and Administration did a fantastic job handling this incident, ensuring the safety of the students throughout the process," police said in a statement. "It is clear that the District takes the safety of both its staff and students seriously."

Police said no further ammunition was found.

Webster Police and Webster Public Schools continue to investigate.
