WEARE, N.H. — A man was found dead inside a Weare, New Hampshire home and a police officer was shot and wounded following an hours-long standoff.
Weare Police responded to 236 Buckley Road for reports of a domestic violence incident at around 1:40 a.m.
Police retreated from the house as Clough-Garvin stayed inside. At least one officer fired his gun.
Barricaded inside the house, officers found a man, identified as 43-year-old Jeffrey Clough-Garvin. Clough-Garvin fired his gun at the responding officers, hitting 27-year-old Weare Police Officer William Paul Lewis on the arm.
Officer Lewis was sent to the hospital and underwent surgery later in the day. His injuries were non-life threatening and he is expected to recover, police said.
New Hampshire State Police and their SWAT unit assisted Weare Police in responding to the incident. At around 8:30 a.m., officers found Clough-Garvin dead inside the house. The autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
Weare Police officers were wearing body cameras at the time of the incident and were able to record images of the situation, police said.
Police are actively investigating the incident and more information will be added to this story as it becomes available.
Weare, located in Hillsborough County, is west of Manchester.
