NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A man who allegedly stabbed two people in New Haven, Connecticut was shot and killed by one of his victims late Tuesday night, according to police.

In a bizarre incident, WFSB reports the unidentified man approached a 27-year-old Hartford man on the sidewalk and said, 'Happy Halloween' before stabbing him in the arm.

A third man sitting in a car nearby got out to see what was going on and was also stabbed. Police say that’s when the 24-year-old second victim pulled out his concealed pistol and fatally shot the attacker.

According to WFSB, the gun was fully licensed and permitted.

The shooting is under investigation, but the shooter has not yet been charged.

"This is still unfolding as far as investigators are concerned, but the information we have so far is this is an unprovoked attack," New Haven Officer David Hartman told WFSB.

The deceased attacker has not been identified. The stabbing wounds are not life threatening.

The 27-year-old was stabbed in the elbow and the 24-year-old was stabbed in his bicep.
