READING, Mass. — Two people were found unresponsive in a car after a crash in Reading, Massachusetts and police say they had overdosed.

The left two lanes of Route 95 south were shut down near exit 37 after the crash around 11 a.m. Friday.

"Everybody knows the opioid epidemic is pretty significant across the country and driving impaired -- whether it's alcohol or drug related -- is always an issue," EMS coordinator Joe Lapolla said. "It's not only you have to worry about them, you have to worry about people around them."

"The outcome this morning was actually very good,"Lapolla said. "We were able to do our thing and we all got to go home as well as everyone else that was on the road this morning.”

Police say the two people found unresponsive in the car were given Narcan and taken to hospitals.

The driver of the car police say they ran into was not injured.
