AYER, Mass. — A few quick moves were all it took for two people who managed to break a door and get a heavy ATM out of a store in just a matter of seconds.
It happened in Ayer at the Exxon Gas Station on Harvard Road.
Police said around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, two suspects covered with bandanas used a blow torch to break in.
The suspects then went straight for the ATM, they appear to have had prior knowledge about how to open it, and they stole money out of it.
“They come through the door with a torch, bring a tank in with them, and going right for the ATM machine, and cutting the side of the ATM,” Police Lt. Brian Gill said.
About a minute after they broke in, the suspects were gone.
The store owner refused to comment, but police said they are working with several other agencies across the state investigating similar thefts.
