Plymouth nuclear plant back online

PLYMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — The Pilgrim nuclear power plant in Plymouth is back online following a two-day shutdown to investigate a minor leak at a valve on a steam-carrying pipe.

Plant owner Entergy said in a statement that Pilgrim was reconnected to the electric transmission grid just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The plant was manually shut down at about 5:45 p.m. Monday to investigate a minor leak associated with a pilot valve on one of the plant's four safety relief valves. Plant technicians replaced the valve.

Monday's shutdown came four days after the 685-megawatt plant came back online following a seven-day shutdown prompted by the failure of an electrical relay that caused two water recirculation pumps to automatically turn off.

There was no threat to public safety.
