SOMERVILLE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A uniformed special police officer employed by the Cambridge Health Alliance was arrested Thursday on drug charges for allegedly selling cocaine to an undercover officer.
On three separate occasions in January, the defendant sold cocaine to an undercover officer in the parking lot of his employer, while working and wearing his uniform, officials say. As part of his job, he was sworn in as a Massachusetts Special State Police Officer, which allowed him to make arrests and conduct investigations.
"This defendant's responsibility was to protect the patients at the hospital facilities where he worked and instead, we allege, that he was engaged in the sale of narcotics," District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a release.
William Kelly, 32, of Somerville, was arrested Thursday and arraigned Friday. He was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate drug laws and possession of cocaine. His bail was set at $1,000 and he was ordered to stay in Massachusetts.
He is due in court next on March 12.
