PORTAGE, Wis. — A newborn fawn is recovering in Wisconsin after being found on the interstate.
Just days old, a fawn kept wandering into traffic on the interstate. Wildlife experts discovered that it's mother had died and police decided they needed to take action.
"You know that in most cases you want to leave wildlife alone. But I think this certainly shows that this was an exception," said Chief Ken Manthey with the Portage Police Department.
When Radio got to the vet, she was in very bad shape.
Officers got the fawn, nicknamed Radio, and put it in a cruiser, taking it straight to the vet.
"Whenever you have an animal coming in comatose like she was, until you really know what the problem is, we don't know what the outcome is going to be," said Dr. Michael Cooper with the Portage Veterinary Practice.
Radio is doing much better and will soon be going to deer rehab.
